2001 HDI

Occasionally not all the time when I come to a halt at a junction for instance the tick over sounds a bit erratic, the rev counter holds steady but a very slight judder can be felt in the car and at night the headlights flicker a little bit.

It doesnt happen every time and sometimes it is worse than others, when driving the car pulls well and doesnt falter.

Any ideas?

Could be the alternator cutting in and out which would alter the load on the engine. Connect a meter across the battery when its doing it and check the voltage, it should read a steady 14.4 volts or thereabout with the engine running. If not check that the belt isn't slipping. Could be the alternator brushes or regulator faulty.
