406 V6 D8 Manual Gearbox ID

Post by Gentle Ben »

Hi all,

I have a spare manual gearbox from a D8 V6 that I would like to have rebuilt, and have a close friend who runs a garage specialising in Renaults who has a contact willing to do the rebuild.

Therefore can anyone advise me how to ID the gearbox I have would? I am guessing it would be marked or stamped with an ID number somewhere.

I also have a query about clutch slave cylinders. Neither of the two gearboxes I have came with one fitted and therefore I need one come the rebuild. I have been advised by BBAutos in Chesterfield that D8 and D9 CSC's will both fit, but the D9 setup is preferable as it has a bleed nipple.

Are these available to buy new from any suppliers or is second hand and cross your fingers the only the option here?

Thank you

Ben

Ben,

It is much better to retro fit the D9 slave assembly because the D8 isn't serviceable.

I believe you can still get them from auto factors.

Pop over to the Coupe club forum, it's quite a bit more active than here & alot more info available
on the D8 V6's

Your box should be a ML5, why do you wish to rebuild it?
If it's not had the oil changed or worse still has had the wrong oil put in it can make it horrible.
Just changing the oil can bring a massive improvement.
Peugeot oil is Total BV 75w-80 & you need two litres (Now Gear 8 ) I believe,
But Castrol sytrans b 75w is even better & will give you buttery smooth changes even from cold (after a few miles)
It's fully synthetic & the very best stuff for this box.
