high pressure fuel pipe leak
hi , looking for some help and advice , i own a 03 plate 406 diesel 2.2 , im having a problem as it keeps fracturing the steel high pressure pipe that runs from the fuel pump to the main fuel rail , its happend three time now with main agent parts , and within a few days of them being replaced , anybody got any ideas why , many thanks
Re: high pressure fuel pipe leak
Where is it fracturing? All 3 roughly the same place? I would suspect that some sort of vibration is doing it. Check that both the pump and fuel rail are properly bolted up and that the pump does not some sort of internal imbalance that might be causing it to run roughly/vibrate.

Re: high pressure fuel pipe leak
To be honest I've not come across this before - I've had a few 2.2hdis and never suffered from fuel/pump issues.
Again, check for unnecessary movement around the areas of the pipe ( engine and gearbox mounts? ) but other than that I can't help, sorry.

Re: high pressure fuel pipe leak
Me too. Never had this problem in 10+ years and about 200k miles with 2.2 HDis, (or heard of it before).

Guess you're talking about pipe 6 in the picture above?
If you haven't already, suggest checking the security of the fixings for the common rail (1) and that nothing is pressing on the individual injector pipes, (3 & 4).

Re: high pressure fuel pipe leak
hi , many thanks for the replies to my problem , it fractures in the same place every time and its the piece of pipe that goes into the main rail under the nut , the diesel mechanic is replacing it again for free , then its going to a friend for a diagnostic scan and see what that shows up , many thanks and a happy new year to all

For the record - ignore the usual 'glow plug relay' fault as it seems most Hdis do this and it's nothing to worry about.
