Things were going great with `pugsley`my newley aquired 110 quiet ,comfy ,quick by diesel standards and 50mpg ,a revelation compared to the 520i @22 mpg ,however it coldnt last and on sunday i noticed a metallic scraping noise after changing up and accelerating ,i suspected the common crank pulley ,but no on monday it got worse and appeared every time the clutch was depressed, now i suspect clutch release bearing ,but no noise continues after gearchange when pulling but goes with reverse torque when slowing ,yes you guessed it i think the dreaded `DMF` has handed in its notice ,so i have swallowed hard and purchased £285 kit with a clutch and solid flywheel intend to fit this weekens ,will let you know how it goes ,i am a mechanic by trade but avoid jobs like this whenever possible.

Hi
Is there anyway to tell if the DMF is going?
I am getting vibrations (pedals, dash) when idling and and when slowing down. The car has alway knocked slightly at idle but this seams to be getting slowly worse (wider rev range).
I've had the crankshaft pulley checked a couple of times and always have a look when i am under the car and it seems fine (I think i heard a taxi with a duff pulley that sounded nothing like mine, more of a thumbing sound) .
If the DMF fails is it likely to cause much damage? or is it likely just to get worse and worse (more vibration etc)?
Thanks

My DMF/clutch produces clutch judder and a squeeky/chattery noise when you engage and disengage the clutch.
I also get a loud squeek when I start the engine which sounds really bad.
Strangely it hasn't been slipping for ages now.
Vibrations could be the rear engine mount?

I don't think so , no movement on the gear stick. Last couple of days idle has been very rough when start car to home from work (almost like its missing). Engine always sounds fine when i get out at home to listen to it.
Will have to listen to it a bit more.

Spent last sunday fitting the kit ,not a hard job just so many bits to take off ,turbo pipes ,gear linkage ,front subframe and everything fixed to it ,hardest bit refitting the box singlehanded whilst trying to ballance it on a jack, not a task for the feeble! its bloody heavy ,when fitting the flywheel use a locking sealer on the bolts to prevent loosening and oil seep through which will look like a rear main leak.while the shafts were out i took the o/s mount off and changed the bush ,the old one was cut through and prised out and the new pressed in ,i have a very large vice and it took a lot of effort ,wouldnt advise hammering it in as the bush will distort or worse the alloy bracket crack, once all back it works a treat ,i now realise the vibration levels previously felt at idle were the out of ballance DMF the centre bearing of which broke up allowing the clutch to move back and hit the bellhousing when the pedal was pressed .i have a collection of pics relating to the job but cant see how to add them ,can anyone advise please.

What a flipping job!

I
have looked at your pics
Well done for showing us. Could you hear the clutch hitting the bell housing?

You sure could hear it ,sounded like someone turning a bent bar in a lathe with a blunt tool, lucky it didnt do more damage ,at worst could have shattered the housing the scores are up to 5mm deep ,so be warned ignore strange vibrations and clutch noises at your peril,Deterioration was sudden ,went from a light scraping to undriveable within 15 miles, although if you could get it in gear it drove fine as the bits stayed in place as long as the release bearing was not pulling against the flywheel.

Sounds like one fun job, exactly the kind of job i would leave to a garage (*)! Looks like it made a quite mess of your bell housing!
I am getting vibration at idle (*) (50 revs above it is fine) and when slowing down (engine breaking) my thoughts are that it probably my DMF, but don't really want to have it changed (£600++ ?) with out being able to to confirm it is.
* I struggled to get the sump bolt out of lasses 206 yesterday!
** a few times when the car has been cold it has felt like it was missing on one of the cylinders, not sure if this could be the DMF or dodgy injector.

Recently had my Clutch and DMF replaced on my HDI, set me back the better part of 550 quid. Not a happy day! Plus this week the Flexible section on the exhaust down pipe failed. So have just spend another 120quid. Car is now smoother and quieter!

just had a look tonight and the lower circular engine mounting is shot me thinks that could be the culprit
