what oil do you reccomend for 2.0 hdi currently using millers fully synthetic at £32.99 for a gallon dont really wanna spend that much next time?

I've been using Silkolene XTR 10W/40 semi synthetic.

Lovely stuff and costs about £15.00/4ltrs (I get it sent by carrier from a place in yawkshire).

Have a look into it. I don't think the HDi benefits from fully synthetic particularly as fully synthetic oils are only good once upto full temperature. A semi synthetic will give better protection from cold IMO.

I've just finished changing the oil and filters in my d9.

I went for:


Got that from GSF for £18.50 - 5 litres (which is nice because I have 0.5 left for topping up)


Original Oil filter - Got that from Ebay for £6 including postage


K&N 33-2539 - Got that from Ebay too for £40 including postage

I have given into temptation and booked the car in at this place for a re-map.

When I spoke to them, they said, they will re-map the car, I then take it for a spin. If I'm happy with the re-map, they will provide the original map on CD for me and leave the new map on for £190. These guys are based in Hinckley so quite near to me. I will post some more info once all is done. With the oil and filters changed, the car seems nice a smooth - I just hope it won't blow up after the re-map.

That fuchs oil you've got is the same make as the Silkolene one I said they are called Silkolene/Fuchs

I'd just stick in what ever 10 40 semi is available when I buy the bits.

I change the oil every 5k , so the oil isn't in long (few months). If i changed it less often i'd probably invest a little more money and time in finding really good oil.

Tend to use "genuine" (purflux) oil filters and have put a K&N panel in it.

Is there really any difference with the K&N 'on the road'

I've used Millers XFE (semi-synth, 10-40)) for 15 years on all my diesels and never had a problem.

Maglite - If Jamie does for you what he did for me, you won't be disappointed. £190 well spent, in my opinion. Nice bloke, as well.

I'm not sure Welton, if I speak to the guys again I'll ask them. I just got back now from getting the car re-mapped! That's all I can say!

I just drove back and I have to say the man, Jamie knows what he is doing. He even backed up my original map to CD and gave me off £20 for paying cash

What I noticed straight away was the torque in 2nd gear. It felt extremely simular to my cousins Audi A4 1.9TDi 130ps. When I switched to 3rd, that's when the smile on my face got even bigger! The acceleration is sooo much better than before. I have also noticed that when at 30 or just under, I usually had to switch to 3rd and then back into 4th at 30. Now I can stay in 4th even when the car is at around 27. On Tuesday I will fill up the tank and see how she goes with fuel economy, that's if I'm not tempted to put my foot down!

i use castrol edge 0W40 in my poo petrol 406 but still change it every 4.5k miles or 6 months

I have covered at least 400,000 miles in: a 405 Style (1.9 just D), a 405 GLD (from memory 1.9TD) and a Citroen TZD (scalded cat - 1.7TD) - all have been home serviced (just the basics) on a VERY regular basis using "Castrol GTD Plus" and Fran filters, never had a problem (at least, not with the actual engine )

Never owned one of these modern things with ECU's and Synthetic Oil! oh, and don't even get me started about "mapping" - whats that about must be something to do with the AA,RAC or Ordnance Survey (seriously, I don't know what it is or if I need it done?

Thanks James - I had hoped that would be the case! Love that oil as its also nice and cheap Now, what about these maps I have to buy....

dont bother with a remap, its just an expensive way of gaining alot of power
at that sort of mileage though, a remap will kill it
the 2.1 already has more than ample power

That sounds excellent, so you've gone from 110 to 137 BHP and shed loads more torque?

I've heard that you can 'pootle' around in 4th at 30 after a remap whereas the standard car gets fussy.

I'd love to get this done but am worrried about my poorly clutch (which hasn't slipped now for ages )

Did they rolling road the car and check the emissions from the eggsauce?

You can never have enough power. My 2.1td is lovely with a remap
