shes a 1998 car, suffering when trying to start. she turns over for about 4-5seconds before spluttering to life. I had a perished fuel return pipe replaced, i thought this would have cured the starting problem, but it hasn't. I've also cleaned the stepper motor twice, as well as the throttle body. And i've cut open and bent the brushes on the throttle position sensor to ensure good contact (this minimised my ever so slight irrattic idle).

Would there be some sort of temperature sensor busted? I'm on a very steep learning curve here, i dont know much about petrols. I'm only really used to the aul xud9te.

do you have a/c?
it could be a bad set of cam followers, unlikely but not unusual on this engine, most likely the coolant sensor has gone open circuit, the engine management knows there is critical problem but wont flag the K light, there are three sensor's bolted to the thermostat housing (assuming you have a/c) the green one is for the engine management, get a multimeter and measure the resistance of the sensor, if its open circuit replace it, if not, measure the voltage at the plug, you should have 5 volts, if not report back

i also had this problem a couple of weeks ago ... not starting well not idleing properly and rac guy traced it back to the "green " temp sender to ecu...

only prob is according to pug parts list this sender unit does not exist..... and does not exist under my chasis number either

after nearly an hour of searching the nice man at stealers parts eventually found a "green" sender unit under a pug 206 1.6 8v engine price for this part is £12.00 and a few pence inc VAT... (thought this was a very good price from stealers)
got home installed the sender unit and problem solved idles ok and no more starting probs

Is the thermostat housing that block on the side of the engine with the coolant hosing running into it? Theres 3 plugs on it, bottom one is green. I persume thats it.

Do i unplug it and jam the voltmeter probes into the shades of the plug and look for 0V? Or 5V?

Dealer recons he can't trace the sensor via the Vin no. so I need to bring the car in.
I don't know what that's going to accomplish. What's he going to do, look at it and tell me "yes it does indeed have sensor" as I told him.

I went to peugeot today, they says that part number is for a speed sensor(?)

So i asked them to check my vin number and look up at green sensor. They put in the vin number and brought up a pic of the thermostat and its surrounding parts.... BUT.... there were only 2 sensors in the diagram occuping the upper and lower spaces in the thermostat, the middle space just had some kind of blanking plug in it. Neither of the 2 sensors were green, but i asked to see the lower one anyway (description said it was maroon) as they had one in stock. They brought back a brown sensor, i tried fitting it to my car on the forecourt but the green plug would not plug into the brown sensor.

So what now? Does anyone have a pug dialogys disk?

this is the same prob i had.... as already stated look for part under pug 206 1.6 engine....this part is NOT listed under a 406 even though the part is fitted..... but thats peugeot for you

dont look under the thermostat housing as its not there, you'll find it under inj. calc. sensor
im sure the part no. i gave you is correct

We have a winner. This is the part number of the green sensor. I got one from peugeot today, even though at first they told me this wasnt the sensor, then phoned me to say it was!

Havn't fitted it yet as i dont have plumbers tape. I removed the sensors from the thermostat but forgot to open the coolant lid to realease pressure so the coolant exploded all over me once i got the sensor out! Luckily it wasnt too warm.

Will fit the new sensor tomorrow morn, and bleed the coolant, to see if it cures the problem.

im always right, the peugeot parts system never makes sense, but the part is there somewhere

Guess what james, your right! Fitted the sensor and engine starts first time now . Need to find the bleed screws on the coolant now. Think thats one on the pipe bend into the matrix, but can't see any others on first inspection.
