Clutch fart... perhaps even a squeal..

Guys,
Each morning, (temp dependant?), a couple of times at the start of a journey I hear a short farty type noise when I come off the clutch - it's not a loud singing type noise or sharp squeal and it is short-lived - so I'm not too concerned yet. Could this be the start of the clutch lining deterioriating? How long have I got before I should consider sorting it out? What would I need to replace? Just the clutch lining (if that's the cause) or the flywheel? As ever, I'd do the job myself

to save a few pounds....
I drive very conservatively and carefully so... WHY ME?? <it's raining and my face is down in a puddle of mud>
In fact, my goal in life is to get an mpg > 42. (I've been isnpired by the postings mentioning 48-50 mpg!
Cheers

I know what your saying here razza. Each morning I get a long, loud farty noise from my bottom, sometimes many times. It's been like it for years now so I don't worry too much.
Hope this helps.

Dude, I've lost all inspiration....

Does it happen when the car's stopped and the engine's off? Might be a sticking clutch cable or the footpedal spring catching something...
...then again, you'd probably feel that more than you heard it

Could be a host of things?
Does your car have a cable or hydraulic clutch?

HDi 110?
sounds like a DMF to me

110. Hydraulic clutch. I bled it recently as part of my 72k service.
No change from before...
If the DMF goes, it that basically the lining surface on the flywheel that's burnt off or shiny? (I haven't pulled one of those apart so apologies if that sounds silly)
Is the DMF replacement a big job to do DIY?
Ta.

Have a look here:

and also look at the pics in the album.

Thanks for that. Looking at the pics, it looks like the friction plate contacts the flywheel directly so if there's some sort of noise when the clutch pedal is used, it's most likely that the friction material has glazed or deterioriated in someway. Surely the DMF face will only be damaged in extreme cases? - it may need a clean but just the friction faced plate will need replacing only?
I'm comparing it to the wear you get on brake discs and pads - if the brakes were a sealed unit like the clutch, you wouldn't get any scoring and hence wouldn't need to change discs (excluding uneven temp warping of course).

The DMF craps out when its internal 'dampers' let go. You will get chattering/squeeking and judder (like mine) and eventually the bearings give up causing it to rotate unevenly and hit the bell housing.
The DMF is a bit like a bonded pulley in a way.
Many have reported clutch 'failures' only to find plenty of surface left on the old one
