Hi,

I have a kind of lumpy steering problem with the old 6, I will do my best to describe ti:-

When I say lumpy it is not lumpy all the time just when turn the steering back from left or right and sometimes I can feel a clunk through the steering wheel as if two bit’s of metal where a few millimetres away and have come back together . Any ideas ?

There are noises from the steering at all, the mechanic tells me the alternator belt is knackered and could be causing it or it may be the front drop link arms, should I get genuine Peugeot drop links arms or ones from eBay that are a fraction of the price if indeed this is the problem.

Thanks,

Andy

When power steering feels stiff or lumpy then it's normally the auxillary drive belt slipping and not driving the PAS pump fully.

Metallic clicking from the steering could be a track rod end.

Hi,

It is not a metal clicking noise more of a clunk i can feel through the steering wheel occasionally, any ideas?

Tomorrow the aux belt and automatic tensioner are being replaced (thank god thought the squeaking noise was the bottom pulley)

also getting two new drop link arms

Any other ideas ?

I have noticed the same type of clunk occasionally working the steering from nearly lock to lock whe the car is moving slowly forward or reverse (i.e. parking) with load...

Never found the cause. Car tracks straight and true, alignment is spot on.

Not much help hey...

Cheers.

I've also got this lumpy steering... how can I check the power steering pump works ok? I reckon mine could be a slipping belt though as my tensioner is a bit dodgy I think.
