Wheel bearings

Has anyone had a wheel bearing go on them? I've got a kind of "light" grindy noise which I think is coming from the front which sounds very similar to the time I had a wheel bearing go in my old 206.

wheel bearing going are quite rare, normally turns out to be something brake related not the bearing. Could be sticky caliper or stone or something.

What milage has the car done?

just rolled past 61k. just had the brakes done but the noise was there before hand. bearing went on the 206 at about 25k!

Think I got one on the way out!

The symptoms are a dull rumbling noise coming from the rear which sounds worse when turning left, and not so bad when turning right, which would lead me to thinking that it is the rear offside wheel bearing!?

The car is a 1998 derv dog with 194,000 on the clock...would she be about due for bearings at this milage?

Anyone changed rear bearings on the drive, or is it a job for the experts? I guess I would need a press to fit the new part!?

What cost should I be looking at for a local garage to do the work (so paranoid about getting fleeced!)

Thanks folks
