Hello everyone, whilst rummaging in my boot today I noticed my exhaust was hanging a bit low. After a look underneath I found that the metal strap round the backbox is heavily corroded and has snapped. The rear box was hanging on for dear life and I've used an old belt to hold it on for the time being but I need to get a relacement. Anyone know if a strap can be brought on its own or if it needs to be brought as part of a back box or such the like??? Ideally I am looking for a website I can order one from as I am right out in the sticks. All help appreciated.

When this happened on mine, the local garage replaced the whole back box as apparently the strap is part of the box... doh!

I am always a sceptic of the dealers as I am sure they will say just that. The backbox itself is in good condition, no rush or corrosion. Thats why it seems a bit of a sod to have to buy a whole new box when I only need a strap that goes round it. I am thinking about maybe trying to make up something myself but I'm not sure where to start. I got an old leather belt round it now. I figure the heat will start to do the belt in but it should give me a week or so to find something better. Anyone else got an A-team-esque idea of how to DIY replace it.

It wasn't a dealer, just a local independent Pug garage. But I agree, there should be a replacement thingy for the strap... I'll leave this for someone else

Stainless steel cable ties????? Made need a few to get around the box tho.

Plastic ties crossed my mine first but I guessed the heat would do them in fairly sharpish. I wasn't aware you could get steel versions. I'll look into that. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Found some s/s cable ties from screw fix. I'll get some of them and give it a go. This forum never fails me. Thanks for your suggestions.

got get jubile clip kit and have a couple of large custom jubilee clips to hold it on, think i have done this at some point in the past. mates dad did have jubilee clip kit thou (real of jubilee strip + some of the screw clips)

Had the same sort of prob, needed new exhaust from cat back. £250 was cheapest £400 was most (pug dealer) I got a stainless exhaust from cat back, hand made £299 from longlife.co.uk

i got an old rear silencer hanger from my 406 laying around my shed if your interested mines a d8 2.1TD estate if that makes a difference

Thanks for all your advice on this guys. I went down the stainless steel cable ties route. Seems to be fine and to be holding firm. I read some of the more recent posts and forgot to add earlier that I have the three piece exhaust , not the two piece so at most it would have been a new rear silencer. Incidently I did a bit of research into the price of them. Found prices at £30 (Online automotive) and £60 from GSF. Online automotive was very cheap but I had ordered two central sections from them before and neither were correct size for my specified vehicle so I am sceptical. Thanks again.
