Stop light on Dashboard

Hey guys,

Three weeks ago I bought my new 406 estate 2.2HDi GLX executive, and it was working fine. Overdue a service and needed an MOT so I booked it in for both. It failed the MOT on a droplink, cv gaiter clip and the rear tracking arm, which I fixed and it has passed. But since its been in for the service, I don't know if I'm dreaming it or not, but the engine diagnostics light stays on for 4-5 seconds after you start the engine. Also at seemingly random points in time the Stop light flashes on the dash and the audible sound beeps, but then it goes off again. With no other warning lights on what does this mean? Should i stop when this happens or carry on driving? Also it only seems to happen a few minutes after setting off.

Hope somebody can help, cuz it seems to be a nice car and i dont want to break it! lol

Cheers for your help...

When the STOP light comes you should stop, normally means something is wrong that may damage engine if driven. Hand book may given some clues to what can trigger it.

Is it just the stop light? or do you get anything other lights?

A stab in the dark, it may be oil pressure related. Don't mean to offend but are you sure if have enough in and its not leaking anywhere and the cap is on correctly?

Alternatively it may be a faulty sensor somewhere. If you can't find out what it is best bet is to plug it into a computer this should give you the fault code that is triggering it.

Hi mbell666 thanks for the prompt reply.

I think the oil pressure should be fine as when i turn on the ignition the sensor gives me the full circles so its up to maximum and its just had it topped up when it had its service.

I know i should stop, but it literally flashes on for 3 seconds flashes and beeps twice and then goes off. Am slightly baffled.

And yes it is just the stop light, no other lights or signs, no temperature changes on any of the guages, no lack of power. So I really don't know. If I take it to a Peugeot dealer and they read the codes do they give a list of whats recently happened? I'm a little new to this, its the first car I've had which is this sophisticated, ECU and all!

Thanks for your help, if anyone else has any ideas that'd be great!

Cheers

I've had a similar thing happen and mine was actually related to coolant temp and the bitron circuit for all the temp sensors and fans.... replaced the control unit and never had the stop light ever again... best bet to be on the safe side is to pop to the local dealers or french car specialists or bosch service centre for a fault code reading.. IMHO
