Post by TooT »

Bored this evening i decided i to prod about the engine bay and look at the airfilter (never looked at it in 2 years of ownership). Not seen one like this before.

Hahahahahaha

"I was bored" hehehe, you just needed an excuse didn't you eh?

At last, my 'food in a tin' episode takes effect :P

Tooty, my filter is like that. It was introduced to extend the service intervals, the foamy bit catches the big bits and the paper filters the small bits. It's well worth bashing it every now and then to get the big bits off the foam. By the way, the Foam is WHITE when new

Did you eat the Salmon or has it been in the cupboard for years? I've not had my Sardines yet (it's a new Oily fish thing I'm starting :| )

I replace my air and pollen filters every 2 months or so. They go in white and come out grey/black. Amazing how quickly they get so manky

Every 2 months  Bejesus m - you must get 'em trade or something?

Actually m, as you well know, filter maintenance is the key to looking after all machinery really so good on you fella :cheesy:

P.S it's a pity your oil isn't changed so often eh? :P :P

Well I see how much crap the filter picks up in those 2 months (5000 miles) and I'd rather spend a couple of quid on a new one than have that sort of muck getting in the turbo bearings/oil supply, filling up the intercooler or at worst entering the engine cylinders... With each new pollen filter comes a better smelling car for a week too ;)

Actually I had to take my car back to National Tyres this morning and get the guy to drain half the sump! Idiots WAY over-filled it last weekend. To the tune of 2 inches on the dipstick!! I thought it was even worse than normal first thing in a morning... Can't believe it took me a week to check it though. Trust me I'm never making that mistake again!

I kept my old filters, this was about 18months ago when I changed them (10,000 miles ago)

They were pretty bad.

I'm sure that foamy bit is white when new :?

Must pick up a couple now you mention it m. So, you've had another oil change eh? you're getting better :P good job you spotted the over-fill  How much do they charge for an oil change?

Just £20 for semi-synth when they've got it on special (which is most months). Includes filter too. Air filters I just get from Halfrauds. Would never put one of those K&N "performance" ones in my car - you seen how much air they DON'T filter?!?
