hi

I have a very frustrating problem with my 1.9td (1999 123000 miles). Occasionally, only when the engine is cold, it will not start. It turns over without any trouble but doesn't even attempt to fire. I have fitted new glow plugs as,when a friend connected a diagnostic computer, they came up as faulty.I have not connected the computer since changing the plugs so I dont know if the fault is cleared. If I leave the car for a while I can go back and she starts ok (so far).If anybody has any ideas or has experienced this I would be really grateful for their advice

Thanks

I got this occasionally on my hdi turned out to be the pump in the fuel tank.

the td's dont have a low pressure pump in the tank only HDI's.

Its probably air leaking into the system somewhere. check the fuel pipes for air bubbles.

If it won't start try pumping the primer pump on the fuel filter housing.

thanks

the bloody thing has started first turn of the key since. how do you check the fuel lines for air ? I cant find a bleed nipple anywhere except the thing on the fuel filter housing.
If there was air getting into the system would the engine not start to miss when the revs were high? The car runs perfectly, when she starts!

Hi
As I have explained above, my motor takes a wee notion to itself every now and then and refuses to start, however,it has started ok over the last two days. Now the only difference between the last two days and before that is, I havn't been locking the car.
My remote central locking doesn't work so I lock the car manually. Is there any possibility that by just using the key to lock the car and not using the " flipper" I am upsetting something in the system that would cause the engine to just turn without making any attempt to start?
