diagnosing diesel pump fault.

Hi peeps,
First post and have a prob with my 406 1.9 td GLX r reg 90 bhp model.
First though i must say that my 406 has covered over 300 thou miles !!!......and all the electrics work!!! only fault is stereo display can't be read in dark!!!!
Car was fault less till last week when after travelling 25 miles home from work stalled at a junction. Started up fine and got home were stalled on drive. As the nights have drawn in i had lights on and raining had wipers etc on. So i just tweaked up the throttle cable and car was fine the next day. However fault reappeared 5 miles from work where it stall again at a junction. Fired up but was rough like it was missing. Was on tick over but would not rev atall. Eventually rev and i pulled it off the road.
I am thinking diesel pump but how do i diagnose it? Or what else could it be.? Quite handy with spanners and have tried undoing injector feed pipes and a little diesel and air. Filter is clear as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks
Jon
