back exhaust box failure ... how much? stainless?

Post by diesel406 »

The pipe going onto my back box cracked away from the box :x - see photo HERE: My broken Back Box

Has anyone fitted a stainless one?
Is it worth it as it might fail again here?
How much - I have seen a stainless one for £50 ... good price? :?: (for a D9 Estate HDI)

Thanks :cheesy:

Mine snapped between the back box and the middle section. I just got a bosal back box from the stealers.

Figure that 145K and 6.5 years on one back box is ok and not worth paying for the stainless.

Prices so far ....

Stealer - £158 (inc VAT) - the guy on the end of the phone agreed they were silly prices!

Internet shops - around £62 + delivery for a non stainless one - eg Bosal

Local Tyre and Exhaust centre - £68 + VAT - the guy on the phone said "go for the stainless one!

eBAY stainless steel ... £65 + £15 delivery :cheesy:

I reckon its worth going for a full stainless system... you dont have to go for some chav 8" backbox, but somewhere like powerflow will do a full system for about £250 with a lifetime guarantee. 8)

I have had to have the back box and rear section replaced and also the front section and CAT, cost me £150 + VAT, this was from my local tyre and exhaust garage.

looking at the massive difference in prices on this thread, i think that the moral of the story is to shop around!!

KwikShit took about 4 attempts to get the exhaust on my car straight, each time trying to make me out to be a dick because I didn't want a twisted "phat" tailpipe that stuck out past the bloody towbar...

backbox fell off my 306 2 days ago, snapped in the same place yours did.

from my local motor factors:

box + new clamp + new rubber hangers = £53

and fitted myself.

Here it is  .. after a bit of messing about since the exhaust pipe connector was exchanged for the proper one! (55mm diameter - 2.25 inch)
Fitting was not so easy but got it sorted in the end.

Bling Bling :cheesy:  .. and a nice noise from the back! You can see the flexi pipe which made the fitting so much easier. The chap who supplied this system was very helpful and met me on Friday evening to swap the wrong connector pipe. The flexible pipe will stop the previous failure. Send me a PM for details of the supplier if you are interested.

if I'm allowed to post links to where i just got my back box from then you can get one for about £41 + £8 delivery.

Having to get a cat and middle section as last owner has kindly gutted the Cat and welded the middle silencer to the car

Total cost for Cat and middle section £121 including VAT and £8 delivery. though I'm close so will save on the delivery and go pick it up
