90 hdi stalls on light throttle when cold

Post by new2peugeot »

Hi - not sure if anyone can help me with this.
I have just bought a 2001 90 hdi saloon and it ids great apart from cold starting. It starts on first ket turn quite reliably but then starts to get lumpy (almost like a petrol with too much choke). It then almost cuts out (or stalls if changing gear) and rights itself.
This happens 2 or 3 times and then the fault dissappears.
Once it has started to warm up it is fine - have done 5000 miles at approx 45 mpg and uses virtually no oil.
If it helps, the problem is worse when the weather is cold (nightmare when there has been a frost).
Nobody seems to have heard of the fault although a local mechanic did change the fuel filter as a precaution- any help would be appreciated.

Could be fault temp sensor causing it to be incorrectly fuel, have you had the fault codes read?

I'd guess its a sensor or fuel system prob.

Thank you for your reply.
No I have not had error codes checked as not being a mechanic, I did not know where to start. Guess it's time for a trip to the local Peugeot dealer !

i'd probably call in at local garage they should have something to read the codes, and should charge you less that the dealers (they would probably want hour labour to read the codes). If there's no fault codes then it may be trip to diesel specialist or pug.

Someone round here might have something to add thou
