I have in my possession a 406 exec turbo with what appears to be a bent whatever the pedals are attached to. As a result the clutch has about 2 inches of travel and needs to be pressed with the tips of the toes, and the accelerator won't press enough to engage the turbo under most circumstances - making climbing hills somewhat slow... The brake thankfully is usually higher than the other pedals so while it's still not right, it's still perfectly usable.

Any ideas how to fix it?



It should be noted that it is the sign of a *fantastic* car when the ex-owner rates it so highly when it has a fraction of the power available it should have!

Also, saloon boots are TINY, I miss the rear wiper, and I have no idea where the arse is on it!!! ;) Still, my old man will love it - after I've nicked the bonnet...

Any ideas how to fix it?

I've driven it again and I'm not so sure now.

For a start the pedals were being limited by the mat. D'oh! Why can't Peugeot bring the price of mats down just a bit from the hideous £70/set they charge now, so people can afford mats that fit?

So I shifted the mat and.... It still felt low. The accelerator does have a fair bit of travel on it now though so I can hear the engine grunt. Unfortunately my initial diagnosis of "there's no turbo!" still stands. Couldn't even spin the wheels in 1st on a wet road! It's slow but liveable under 40, but 70 comes up in approximately a week and it won't go much higher than that! I'm hoping it'll turn out to be something trivial like a vacuum pipe or something. Ideas?

The clutch is the worrying thing though. I pulled the pedal and it's spring up a couple of inches! The thing is there's no resistance on those inches other than the spring on the pedal I can push the pedal down to where the clutch actually starts with just the back of my little finger! If 406s didn't have such high bite points, it'd be undriveable. What the heck could cause this to happen, and how can it be fixed?

Matts are about £40 for the fitted set, luxury mats are about £70! If you dealer wants £70 for the standard ones i'd be complaining!

If you have the tan/ivory/whateveritscalled interior, you're a little limited in the choice department...

I looked at a d8 with the cream leather and carpets, quite liked it. Did think to myself would be a real bugger keep anything like clean thou.

Have to amit if i had one i'd probably just fit black mats to save the hassle of cleaning it everytime i used the car!

ok I opened up the clutch hydraulic reservoir earlier and found it empty where I expected to see liquid. Looking at http://www.peugeotpartscatalogue.co.uk/D8F/2/21M10A.HTM I'm under the impression that the problem with this car is that it's somehow lost fluid. From the base of the reservoir would be a logical assumption.

What stuff do I put in there to fill it back up, and how the f**k do you bleed a sealed system?
