wonder if any1 can shed some light on my problem. Im getting a whinging sort of noise when i turn my steering wheel at v.low speed e.g parking or taking off, i think it could be my power steering pump but i aint sure and dont want to start sorting bits that are fine. any suggestions on what it is and how much it would cost to sort cheers.

What, the steering? Sounds very dangerous!
Still not sure about this "whinging" - "do we really need to drive this fast are we in a hurry watch out for that blade of grass could you turn the music down I'm cold I'm too hot don't forget to turn left here..."

I know what you mean, it's like a groaning noise when you go full lock, like the pump is about to have a heart attack. My mate's astra does it.

problem solved. Having only recently acquired the car i thought id best check the fluid levels first b4 doing major work. The person i bought the car from had changed the power steering fluid but it wasn't even close (bout 2 inches away) to the minimum level indicator. I topped up and put some of this wynns stop leak stuff in beside it no more whines or groans.
