Odd Starting Prob....

It's a D8, P reg Pug Diesel Turbo, bog standard. 207,000 miles on the clock, yes I know!
Sometimes, on starting, I get nothing on key turn, hardly even the click of the solenoid. Battery is fine (checked), charged, all electrics work, headlamps bright so I know it's not the battery or charge. I do 500 M62 miles a week so I know it's getting a charge.
It's always on a cold mornings or once in the evening when it had been stood all day. Nine times out of ten I just wait, try again and after about 10 mins and five goes it cranks normally and fires up no bother.
However twice lately this technique has failed and I need to kick it with my booster and it's fine again for a few weeks, even on cold mornings.
I can sense when it's gonna happen now.
I'm prepared for the worst, most likely it's not worth fixing, plip does plip anymore since last week, today I accidently disconnected the battery to find a point for the croc clips on the booster, now the radio wants a code and I don't know it. I tried to enter 0000 and the on/off button fell off. Bugger.
I can afford a new(er!) one but I'm a right tightarse when it comes to cars now, having blown a small fortune on them in my youth....
