Engine stalls after 2-3 minutes of starting...

Hi
In the past week or two my '98 V6 Estate has started being a pain in the arse - I thought that it was just down to the sub-zero morning frosts but it's doing it now whenever the engine is cold.
I start it up no bother and let it idle for a few minutes then it just dies on me and takes a fair while to start again and I can get on the move. It's a pain as I now wait for it to do this rather than go off and stall on the road.
Therer is a gauge, which I think may be fuel pressure, between the rev and mph dials, which goes up to max on first start, then drops back when the engine is running. On the start attempts subsequent to the stall this gauge doesn't move, but I think that it used to.
Any advice?
(Merry Xmas btw)
