suspension kits can be bealt with by all of the regulars, koni, spax etc. tyres would have to be toyo r888's for hard track use matched with some nice speedline wheels. i would personally leave the brakes well alone. there 283mm 306 gti-6 spec so they dont really need to be upgraded especially if your stripping the car for weight loss. if you do suffer from brake fade try some mintex 1144's or equivalent.nom wrote:Hi everybody,
My plan is to take my 2.0l Turbo 406 from luxo barge to track weapon on as tight a budget as possible and as a result need some help planning out the mods.
I'm going to start with handling issues by replacing the suspension with a new full set and getting some lightweight wheels with some fairly focussed tyres. Any suggestions on suspension providers that deal with the 406 and wheels that are particularly light and have the right fitment (at the moment i'm thinking team dynamics)? Also a wheel to replace the huge standard one is well on the cards.
After this I'm going to change brake discs and pads which I've already decided on. By this point I will have spent a small wad of cash and hopefully will be in position to get an economical runaround so I'm going to strip out the interior, replace the front seats with something light and supportive and get a cage welded in. Then it will be time for performance mods, my intial target is 200bhp which shouldn't be to hard and with all the weight reduction should produce something quite competent. For track use however I'm up for a hardcore clutch, short shifter kit and an LSD. Does anyone know where I can get these for a 406 and how much an LSD would cost!
That's the plan so far, I'm form sheffield so any local stuff would be appreciated and thanks for helping if you can!
lsd's are not available for the me/ma type gearboxs. a change to the be series gearbox is possible but then driveshafts etc will become an issue. tuning the 2.0 turbo to 200 bhp will be nigh on impossible with the standard turbo if you want an ounce of reliability. the t28 from a nissan pulsar/200sx is a bolt on fit to the pug manifold, that will see a few more ponys from standard boost pressure compared to the old t25 standard turbo. youre only limited to one bar maximum boost as the ecu only runs an 2 bar map sensor. for the price of a remap and a map sensor change it would be more beneficial to change to a standalone system which can be remapped to suit other mods. youre only limited as much as your budget.
hth and good luck with your project.
