Gearbox problems

This may or may not be connected, but last summer the clutch disintegrated whilst on holiday in France. (Replaced and back on the road in 3 days by local main dealer.) After a couple of months, then and becoming increasingly more persistant, I have had trouble selecting reverse gear. Occasionally it goes straight in first time, mainly it will only select with difficulty after not quite going into gear, and sometimes it will just select, and as soon as pressure of drive is taken up it will jump out. This is on a 2000 2.0l 406GLX estate with a cable operated gearbox. There appears to be no adjustment point. Is it possible to adjust this mechanism, or am I looking at a major gearbox out job? Forward gears present no problem. Help please. Deepee
