Hi, my key will no longer operate the remote central locking when pressed. Ive tried the obvious like changing the battery in the key, the red light illuminates when the button is pressed but the doors fail to unlock. The key will operate the central locking when inserted in the door lock but not by remote.

Can anyone help!!!

do a search for how to re-initialise/re-sync the key? Pretty sure it's been on here recently

Do you have a keypad for the imoblilisor code thingy-ma-bob on the bottom of the dash, right hand side of the stearing wheel?
If so, you can put your code in and with a few commands (Can't remember exactly, find it in your handbook) you can re-program the two keys.
Every now and then my key goes out of sync with the car, not got to the bottom of it yet, but I just reprogram the keys with the keypad and bob maybe your uncle. BTW, this is on my D8, so it may be different on a D9.

Does anyone know if it's something to do with dropping your key that puts it out of sync? Or is that an old wives tale?

You leave your key in the ignition at petrol stations? You do realise your insurance won't pay out if it gets stolen like that?

As for the random locking I'd guess you've got a dodgy button on the remote, especially since it did it while you were trying to unlock it. Got a spare key you can test this theory with (leaving the other one far out of range of the car)?

hate to cut you down mjb, but if the key was in the ignition then the problem has nothing to do with the key as the central locking button does not function at all when the key is in the ignition :?

The wife's 206 did it for a while but that was a BSi fault, and luckily your car hasn't got one of them so that's not it..... I also had firends who had a 206 that would randomly unlock itself in the night, but they never really got to the bottom of that, kinda became "if someone nicks it they'll be doing us a favour...."

So that post was completely useless to you eh?

I did think about that, but wondered if it might not be working in this case. After all, any key that fits the ignition barrel will start the car as long as it's within 30 seconds of a remote unlocking.

This is a tricky one as the only other failure I can think of that would cause this (other than a central locking ECU failure) would be a +/-12v short on the wire which goes to the solenoids. But considering the doors otherwise lock and unlock ok, I can't see this being the case

Having said that, I've not actually looked at the wiring diagrams for this :)

It could even be one of the microswitches on the door locks.
