Strut Top Bearing Plate

Just thought I'd share this with you folks.
My 2001 Sri started to knock when turning the steering at low speeds and when at a standstill and turning the steering.
Got the mechanic I use to check it out - apparently its a common failing on Pugs - the strut top bearings / plate wear away meaning the front spring(s) is under some resistance to turn with the steering hence the knocking noise.
Have had both sides replaced and wow what a difference! No knocks, lighter steering. I had a look at the plate on the drivers side that was removed and it was well gone, bearings crumbled and plate very rough to touch. Both sides were done as it is not a difficult job as long as you compress the front road springs.
Total cost was £80 for both sides (the bearing plates are about £20 a side from a local motor factors).
