NEW TO 406'S NOT RUNNING RIGHT

i am new to the peugeot 406 i have a p reg 2.0 non turbo
the problem i am getting is when i put the foot down the revs start bouncing about like its red lining
down low in the revs its fine but over 3 you get a loss of power and in 5th it wont go over 4k anyone got any ideas??

the problem is i don't really understand your question is it the rev counter going mental or is it the engine if its the engine then i reckon your clutch is going if its the rev counter with a misfire then you could try reseating your engine management ecu or have a search on this here forum cos its come up on here before

sorry its hard to explain the clutch is new it pulls fine up to about 3k then you get no power and a kangaroo effect in 4th it will pick up again about 4k and pull ok to about 90 but 5th it wont go over 3k the rev bounce like its hitting the limiter. how to i reset the ect ??
