my so called cheap runabout fiesta is in the garage having a clutch done ofter it broke down yesterday ( £120 for a clutch kit ) so i borrowed my mothers 307 HDI 90 , she said it dont seem to be running tidy and thats bit of an understatement to me . the problem is not constant but its very annoying , sometimes when you accelerate the turbo doesnt kick in at all in any gear but it still revs up past 4k just very slowly, and it accelrates like a bus and you cant hear the turbo at all , other times the turbo noise is very noticable and it pulls well but some times then it seems that the turbo comes on then off and then back on and keeps going like that for a while . i checked the intercooler pipes and they are all ok but i dont think its them cos most of the time the power is fine and it doesnt smoke at all even when its down on power . im not getting any warning lights or anything like that and theres notice of when its going to be slow . it had a new cambelt done less than a thousand miles ago and it seems that its only been happening since then . any ideas guys thanks

problem with the wastegate or something that controls it?

I drove my work's 406 90 to leicester like that, when I got back (2 years later), I told the head driver and he said the waste valve must have gone again. At least I think that's what he said.

Sounds exactly the same symptoms as you though Darren.

Let me know if you like, and I'll ask him exactly what the problem was.

its still doing it but i know nothing about the hdi engines so can anyone tell me how the wastegate is operated on it thanks

i suspect a wiring fault, the turbo is not regulated in anyway, but the airflow meter looks for the rate of change in the airflow to check its efficiency, the boost is mapped in the ecu by load, rpm etc...
you need to get the fault codes read before you can go anywhere

update - the turbo hardly ever comes on boost now and the car is very slow , can anyone tell me what i need to read the fault codes or if anyone in the south wales area has a code reader or something id be very gratefull if they could plug it in to the car and read it for me

Don't basic fault code readers come it around £60? I don't think it'd be a problem with the TPS, although they're not difficult to replace and shouldn't be expensive (just a 20p variable resistor in a plastic casing). Having said that we're talking about Peugeot here... :/

I've got a handheld jobby, doesn't work on my HDi, but I've heard from others that they sometimes work on 2.0 HDi's.

Be very careful with this mod. The guys in the Toyota club blank off the EGR with no ill effect. (Not using the ball bearing bought on e-bay for £3.99, I might add, but properly) However, some other marques do not like this mod, as part of the function of the egr is to introduce cooler air into the cylinders to help with cooling and without it you could be looking at head problems!

EGR introduces inert gas into the fuel/air mix and lowers the flame temperature of the combustion stroke, without EGR you would get better performance but higher temps, and forming large amounts of NOx into the air. The down side to EGR on a diesel is soot formation due to 'incomplete' combustion and the more recirculation you have the more soot you get so you need Particulate Matter Filtering.....arrrrrrrgggghhhhhhh

air dozer on mine fell to bits cost around £30 and literally took me 5 mins to fit

When you log into servicebox, go to 'spare parts', select D9 (or enter the VIN) and when it shows you the pictures of the various categories, click on the 'search' tab then click the 'search by part number' thing - might show you what you need to know.

can anyone tell me what the electro valve and the air dozer does cos ill start with them and work from there
