My first post, new to site.
Who uses what oil in a 110 HDi? It's only covered 58000 and is a 2000 model year. Does anyone use Total or Elf if so what spec and where is the cheapest source fo 5 litres.

Semi synthetic - Cheapest I've found is Hyper U supermarket in France, so I buy a few gallons of it whilst I'm buying gallons of beer & wine several times a year.

Most people use semisynthetic 10W/40.

I can recommend Silkolene/Fuchs XTR 10W/40. I get it from xcite motor sport in Yorkshire.

58000 miles on a 2000 HDi is incredibly low

Total Quartz 7000 semi-synthetic is what Peugeot dealers use. They also recommend Castrol.

Get Total from the dealers - cheapest I've found (surprisingly).

I got Total from the dealers last service, but only because I was in there getting the filters and the like, and I couldn't be arsed to go elsewhere. I was surprised how reasonable the price was, but I'm surprised that it's the cheapest. That'll save me looking around next time....

My dealer had BP oil, in fact he told me they use whatever they can get at a good price per barrel for the garage servicing (as long as it's the right grade and API No.) I don't know about the cans over the counter and have just realised I'm talking about something different so will stop now

thanks for all the replies. I've found that the Citreon dealer, will do me quartz at a good price, now there's a turn up for the books.either 10w -40 or 5w - 40,
Yes Welton the mileage is low we had the GLX when it was 12months, old ex Peugeot car with 12 k on the clock but I had to ching out for it.

Cant see the point in changing the oil yourself these days, Hi-Q tyres will change it with genuine filter for £20ish with Castrol Magnatec. So you save roughly £2 on doing the job yourself, but then you have to dispose of the waste oil and filter

but you do a better job if you do it yourself. If i do it i will actually leave the car long enough for almost all the oil to drain, then the new oil will stay clean for quite a while.

garages will normally let it drain for quite a short time (time is money etc) so you still have some of the old oil and crap left in.

I let my oil drain for hours last time and even 'tipped' the car front/back and side/side with the trolley jack (which got loads more out)

Having said that I do agree it's a fine line between yourself or a garage to do it

I Know, I know. There was a time when I always did it myself, undoing the sump plug in the evening and let it drain over night before putting some fresh oil in. But then it would save a considerable amount of money, I just can't see the point in getting my hands dirty to do an oil change considering how little money I would save these days and it's not as if they use poor quality oil. It's like my local main Peugeot dealer, they charge £119(express fit) for a full service (brakes off and clean, all filters and oil, complete inspection and MOT) basically a 4 hour job, I just can't see the point in doing it myself anymore.
