power steering leak - around header tank

HI,

I have had to top up my power steering resvoir onec a month for the last 2 months. The rack and pump seem to be oil tight with no sogns of leakage.

I have found pools of fluid on the body frame below the header tank. I cannot see any damage to the power steering lines or tank. I am now thinking that there could be a high pressure spill back to the tank causing it to escape from the small breather hole on the tank cap. Is this possible?

Anyone ever had similar problems?

Any help appreciated.

Yep, the once only crimped jubilee on the feed pipe from the bottom front of the reservoir went loose and ps fluid leaked out everywhere. Hacksaw, new jubilee, job done.

Just what Steve said.
I've got a leak from the hose coming off the power steering pump, that crimp clip is a complete waste of time.

My old 2.1td used to leak through that same breather hole in the cap. I just left it without topping it up and eventually it seemed to find its own happy level, which was above the minimum, and I just left it. I think in the 4 years I owned the car, I had to top it up once because the steering was making a noise.

Hope this makes you feel better.
