Remaps - was ECU reset thread

If I disconnect the battery for a couple of hours then drive the car like I stole it will it improve performance at all?
I'm getting very bored of the lack of omph on my car :(

Also do I have to reset the ECU or can I just drive it like a nutter for a few miles and "re-learn" the ECU that way?

Trouble is, HDi's don't do 'drive like a nutter'.

I think I noticed mine was a bit more cheeky after the ECU codes were cleared/reset but that may be wishfull thinking. I don't think it makes much difference on the HDi and is a bit of an old tale TBH. It wouldn't hurt disconnecting the battery if you want - the leccy windows, radio etc etc are not affected.

Have you considered a re-map? (don't tell her indoors)

Didn't think it would make much of a difference :(

Remaps are £500 notes and won't make much difference will it really.

Tempted by picking up a shed of a Saab 9000 2.3T for £600 for a second car for when I feel the urge to have a little bit of omph ;)
Either that or a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo (which are quite nice) but a bit more pricey at £1500.

Actually a remap to 140BHP should be about £300.00 but the biggest gain will be the torque to about 230 lbsft over the 188lbs standard.

The remap by all accounts totally transforms the HDi and even gives it power right through the revs. One thing to bear in mind is the clutch though I certainly know mine wouldn't take a remap - which is why I've never done it because I knew I would be straight into a £600.00 clutch and fly :(

And eric, there's no such thing as a nice cheap old turbo car for weekend use - you'd be straight back into the modding thing ££££££££££££££

Transforms it right.....
Hmmm ok you are getting me tempted.

The Mrs is more likely to go for it then my latest bonkers plan (dreamed up about an hour ago.)
A Lexus 4.0 V8 for a 2nd car lol

But a remap, £300 for a as new car and my clutch should be fine with a few extra bits of torque ;)

Tempted....

Well...

No, you are right.
Give me a petrol turbo and I'd be tuning that thing to oblivion as soon as it reached my driveway

Try asking in a new thread about remaps. I know Puggy's had one and Maglite? don't see him much now, rapport25 has one, there are more too.

Apparently there's a good place in Hinckley?

Everyone says the car is storming after a remap.

Changed the thread title to match the derail :D

Anyone want to comment or advise on remaps for a 110HDi?

Where's the best place to go and how much difference does it really make?

hi eric ... had my 110 remapped about 12 months ago and it has been great !!
though because like welly i was a little worried about my clutch i didn't have
the best or most manic remap the guy had and am now regretting that cos
clutch has been fine  but knowing the difference it makes i may have it and
if the clutch goes deal with that then.
There are several places offering to re map i know there is one Derby way called
diesel doctor or derv doctor i think who is supposed to be very good, the guy i used
was called jamie and lives in hinckley i went to his house and had it done though he does
come to you as he is mobile and does not charge much more for this service.
No garage no rolling road the guy just plugs in to your ecu and starts to change it,
when he has finished tells you take it for a run if when you come back you are not
happy ( i was grinning from ear to ear :) ) he puts your old prog back into the ecu
and i think doesn't charge you . I was well pleased and it cost me £200 . The difference to
the car is really noticeable, where it used to fade off on acceleration it now keeps
going and the torque like welly says is great you can really feel it pulling in every gear
and does more mpg :) at the end he gave me a disc with the old prog on for if ever
i wanted to change it back.
As i said there are several places doing it ,set up with rolling road and all the toys but
keep in mind you will pay for that £300 - £500 i believe.
Dont know where you live eric but if you are reasonably close to me you are more than
welcome to compare my car against yours before you take the plunge :P

Greta thanks for the info! :cheesy:

Anyone that knows me will know what sort of remap I'd go for.... Who needs a clutch anyway, it'll either die or not die as far as I'm concerned

Good to hear it makes a big difference, it's on my shopping list now and I've got to agree a lot cheaper than buying a 4ltr V8 or petrol turbo for a second car... although maybe not as much fun ;)

I'm down in Bristol so not really local to you unfortunately but thanks for the offer anyway :D

Cheers for that mate :)
I'll have to check finances and give him a ring.
Oh you can be certain it'll be the manic one for me, unless I take the car round the block after a map and the clutch shows signs of strain ;)

Excuse me for urinating on your bonfire eric but clutch slip on the 406 will only show itself properly after an hour or so of driving when the clutch and fly have both reached full temperature :(

Mind you I don't know why I'm telling you because you will just go 'manic' anyway and then sort it out
