Its about time to give my best an oil change.

I went into halfrauds today as i needed to get some bits to fix my bike so thought i'd get some oil while i was there.
The oil they reccomended was 15w 40 (which i bought)

Looking on castrol's oil guide they reccomend 0w 30 or 10w 40.

15w 40 is for non fuel injected cars.

I currently have a 1998 1.8 16v, could you let me know which oil type i do need before i bugger it up with the wrong stuff??

Haynes says 5-40 to 10-40, this time of year it's the first number you're looking at. If I were you I'd take the oil back to Halfrauds and tell them to stick to selling bicycle innertubes, then go and get some nice 10w 40 semi-synthetic.

15W/40 is too thick! use 10W/40 for a best all round oil (semi syn).

In my younger days I had a 405GR 1.9 with 50,000 miles - went into the dealer and the parts jockey advised their 20W/50 oil as he said it was 'high' mileage :o and being a twat I bought it, poured in that gloopy sh*t and the next morning the engine would hardly turn over :x - I then asked someone else (with more than one brain cell) and ended up dropping the oil again the very same day for a 10w/40 - the silly things we do when we're young eh?
