I know very little about the turbo petrol lump but i think i read on here the turbos seals can leak a little oil if there isn't enough back pressure in the egg sauce system.
Have a good search on here, there is lot on here about playing with the turbo lump, especially look at niz406 posts as knows his beans on the turbo.

mate trust me i know this one, ive jus bought a 2.0i 8v sri turbo from my mate, he spent £2500 having the engine+turbo reconned and pistons rings changed pretty much reconned the whole engine only to fnd out that the floating seals on the turbo werent seqaling propperly for lack of back pressure... try turnging the fuel pressure down a little bit. i did in mine and its stopped the smoke from the exhaust and also stops it over fuelling coming down gears and at idle, hence it wont barble and bang, im running decat from the manifold,, garret hybrid t3/4 turbo and after i turned the fuel pressure down a bit its sorted out..lovely stuff

the full list of gear on the car is as follows
K&W Variant Adjustable Suspension
Hybrid T3/T4 Turbo at 9.5psi
Skimmed Head 8th inch
Wafer Thin Head Gasket
Full Stainless Decat From Manifold Down ( LOUD AS YOU LIKE)
Engine Reconned at 80.000 miles
thats about it engine wise lots of other modds astheticly
but with all that the last dyno was 197bhp at the wheels was like 217bhp at the flywheel with 207lbs per sq foot of torque
the ole girls done 100,000 already and 140mph is still a breeze, its a real dream to drive, id like to say the same for parking but its twice the size of my 306, ill get sum photos on here of the beast and probs the dyno print out nice to back it up wit pics aswell ;)

overfueling is better than underfueling, especially on a tubby, running lean will make it go bang, quick, but black smoke is not enough air, so i would go for more boost
you will hit limp mode at 0.9 bar though

as long as its well heat shielded, and has a good cold air feed, it will help, but you need more boost, i would get a an A/F ratio gauge and do a few runs and keep tweaking the boost and fuel pressure till you get it right, it will be worth it

you dont need an after market boost controller im running a stock one at the moment its easy enough to tweak if you can get to it. im pretty sure its parralel to the drivers wheel arch like i said if u can get to it its jus quater turn at a time. you will need a boost gauge as 406-t's dont have one as stock.

ill get back to you..
ps have sum pics uploaded now
