fuel filter

i replaced the fuel filter housing as a pipe had snapped of the top but can anyone confirm if you get a new filter in the housing as i really dont wanna take the bloody top off :frown: thanks

Yes you do. I assume you mean off a hdi? why they changed the design from the older diesel engines is beyond me. Other than profit :x :x :x

yeah sorry its an hdi the guy at the parts counter said they come with the filter but i dont think he was realy that interested thats why i was looking for confirmation as i didnt wanna take the top off and risk damaging it again bloody stupid idea it cost me £52 to replace i dont know if youd be better using a filter type strap wrench insted of a socket on the top of the housing? :twisted:

I used a strap to remove the top on mine found it easier when engine hot when it was off i cleaned & dried the threads & sparingly applied a good quality silicone grease to the male thread before re - assembling now its fairly easy to remove.

How often should the filter be changed?

I had the main dealer do mine 2 years ago (17000 miles ago).

I think the book is every 30 or 40k. Personally i'd did/would do it every 20k.

Mine get done every other service, so thats 24000.

on a HDi i would change the filter housing every other oil change, expensive but extends the life of the HP pump and injectors (mainly siemens) greatly

what mileage is every other oil change? :oops: is that really neccesary seems very expensive but i am a yorkshireman!!! does the filter defo come in the new housing james?

book oil change is 12k, so in theory filter every 24k.

yes you get a filter in the housing (i've bought one before!)
