my hdi 90 engine shudders when moving from stationary, or even if i let the clutch out slightly (biting point)
its gets worse every day, but once its going along its fine. could this be a worn torque mount?
thanks in advance.

The 90 is not renowned for clutch problems but you can never rule this out. The rear lower engine mount (with the drive shaft passing through it) can also cause this shuddering - can you detect vibration as the car rides over a crest in the road?

is this when accelerating, or just when coming off the clutch?

coming off the clutch, if you give it lots of revs its ok.

I'm with Welton, probably an engine mount but it could also be your friction disk's soaked in oil.

thanks chaps, there is a bit of an oil leak so thats worth concidering. as soon as i get my jack back of loan ill crawl underneath and check the torque mount.

It's the mount, early stages of failure. The top mount seems most the most common to wear.

I hate to say this but it could possibly be the thrust bearing in the clutch too

i did think of the thrust bearing, thatll be a pain to change! i hope it the mount though.

Thrust bearings usually make a god awful racket when they're on their way.

i bet its the thrust bearing, i now have to drop the clutch at 4000 rpm to avoid the noise.

Hopefully James will drop by and read this thread, he's the resident genius!
Trouble is he defected; sold his 406 and bought a Passat

Usually but not exclusively

knackerd clutch pressure plate, a worn thrust bearing (or release bearing) will give you a high pitched squeal or rattle at idle untill you depress the pedal
