HELP
I have just bought a 406 TD 1998. Drove it 200mls or so and all was fine well sort of. The cluch pedal was a bit stiff nothing else.
Now i think its slipping also the rev counter seems to have a mind of its own works when it wants and the heaters work but the blower seems only to blow on low setting.
The other fault is that it dont seem to want to start ?? if you keep cranking the starter over it will start but not as it should i suspect heater plugs but being this is my firsr td car im stuck .
Any Ideas from you guys befor I go stick my head in the oven

Thanks Mark

Are you waiting for the glowplug light to go out? They do die eventually of course, but on my 2,1 I have to wait and sometimes run them twice - and they're new! The other thing it could be is the transponder pick up on the steering column.

Which version of TD is it? (1,9 or 2,1) The 2,1 has a self-adjusting hydraulic clutch but I think the 1,9 is cable, maybe it's gone stiff.

The rev counter is probably connections, there's loads of posts about this sort of thing if you have a search.

Not sure about the blower fan, I thought they usually only worked on full speed when they go wrong.

Anyway, no need to put your head in the oven, we've seen far, far worse

The blower usually dies completely when it's gone. It's just the air pressure under the bonnet combined with convection from the heater matrix makes it seems like it's blowing gently when it's actually not.

To get at it pull out the 3 clips holding the soundproofing under the glovebox. It's then visible if you kneel beside the car and shove your head under. Removal is a case of pulling out the multi-way connector on the back of it and the single black connector at the front, unclip the wiring harness and pull out 3 philips screws. It should then drop down easily (apart from the damn harness getting in the way

I have owned numerous peugeot's and the blower motor is always a problem on them eigther there noisy or the speed swith is dikie I know on a majoraty of these if there is a problem with the switch it is usually to do with the solaniod connected to it these are usually about £6 from a dealer and are a piece of piss to fit. as for the clutch ring Euro car parts new clutch from them is around £60 if its slipping it won't be long till it lets you down.

know as for the starting problem these cars rely heavily on the glow plugs to start so get a new set in and 9 times out of ten you will find it sorts the problem.

good luck!
