Hi,

Got a 2ltr HDI 90 and I have this strange issue where the Temperature gauge goes up to 70 from cold then will go up and down between 70 – 90 for about 5-10 minutes and then will sit slightly below 90. Is this an issue and should I do anything about this?

Thanks

Could be the radiator fan(s) turning on and off due to the aircon?

My HDi temp gauge rises to 70 at first, this is the temp at which the climate control ecu allows heating into the cabin. This heating temporarily affects engine coolant temp (losses) and the gauge may stay at 70 for a bit and then after this the temp will rise (slowly) to 90 deg.

My temp gauge needle points directly to the number 9 of 90 and stays there! this all happens in about 8 to 10 minutes from a cold start.

I had a new thermostat 2 years ago so it should be working properly.

I have seen the temperature drop back down to 70 if I've not been very far yet, it's cold outside, and the car has been left idling (it cools right down then). You only really reach 90 properly if you drive, get it past 70 deg, and keep driving - it will then sit at 90 all day long.
