Hi everyone that knows me and does not. Im getting the new car bug again. What should i replace my pug with? I love the performance and economy of my 406. And ride comfort to name just a few things i love about it. Ok mine is a hdi which is remapped. So i would be looking for a simular kind of power of course a diesel again. 4 door saloon or 5 door hatch really unsure what to drive. Like the 5 series bmw and was so so tempted to buy one a few years ago after a test drive. Have driven a 407 136 hdi and have to say was not that impressed so i doubt that will be my 406's replacement. Maybe a audi a6 bmw 5 series im thinking a german car this time. I do like the 607's but same kind of problems as a 406 i guess. Also the new laguna and even the new mondeo's cant believe im considering a ford never liked them but the new mondeo seems to be the best mondeo they have produced in my opinion. Is anyone else in the same boat? But still keeps there pug after it behaves    .

Its best time to get shot when they are behaving especially if your going to flog it privately.
Ive just got rid of mine, my list of demands were different to yours, my 406 replacement had to have just as much (if not more) equipment . It took some doing but i managed it in the end :cheesy:

Yes i tend to agree with what you are saying there. What is the megane like? Have only ever driven the shape previous? Not sure about the styling of those but at least it looks different to your focus/307/astra rivals. What kind of money would i get for my 406? Its a 2000 reg on a V plate 2 owners from new. 150,000 miles. Full service history non peugeot a friend of mine who use to work for peugeot and has worked for himself for the last 15 years. Its in good condition. Only mods colour coded inserts all round. Small rear lip spoiler like on the bmw's. Rear sun blind which gives the impression of a tinted rear screen toe bar which i have never used with two phase electrics. Superchiped around 4 years ago i think. Also uprated flywheel and stage two organic clutch fitted only 12,000 miles ago.

Depends on what size you want, but the new Astra is a cracking car. I've driven our friend's hatchback and my father-in-law's zafira(7 seat astra) and they're a really nice drive and feel well put together.

Yes i have to agree. Have driven a 1.6 astra new shape german build quality i would of said. Not to sure what the diesls are like though as for size i would prefer vectra size and a hatchback. I assume you still have your coupe? How do you rate it? Just curious? as i myself had the 3.0 V6 se and did not rate it at all.

I dunno about anyone else but if I saw "chipped to 150 bhp" in the ad I'd think "thrashed to death" and move on. Maybe worth de-chipping? What does everyone else think?

Read this thread for Welton's rave review of BMW and for everyone else's opinion...

The new Mundano does indeed look good, the first time I saw one I really didn't expect the Blue Oval of Crapness on the grill.

Honest John for car reviews, but bear in mind he trashes the 406. I always find the Mundano reviews fun, especially the bit where the engine ingests part of the injection system and self-destructs.

I think I'd be test driving a Mazda 6 estate, nowhere near as soul-less as other Jap cars and reported to be uber reliable (apart from some clutches). What idiot designed the Primera?

Thanks for that will have a look on there reviews and prices for the 406. Regards to being chipped in my opinion i would not think thrashed if it was a sportier car and i was 18 with loads of mods i would agree. Someone who is early 30's who loved the car but wanted more power but not to change the car. Went to an authorised superchip dealer payed £516 for the chip. And clutch and flywheel needed replacing spent excess of £600 on uprated clutch and flywheel and full service history i would not think thrashed may be its me though.

I'm going to stick my neck out here.....a Renault 3.0 V6DCi Vel Satis.

Seriously, take a look at one - individual, ultra comfortable, spec'd up to the nines, well priced (now) 8)

The Vel Satis is way ahead of it's time IMO, in 10 years time all cars will be that size I reckon.

But they look fecking weird!

I'd have thought cars would only get smaller & lighter, with hybrid engines - at the present rate diesel will be about £5 a litre!

After my Laguna experiences, you wouldn't catch me touching a Renault with a barge pole!

Hey - I never told you did I? I was given a lift by my Sister and brother in law to pick up her indoors Astra - anyway they have an Audi A3 S-line 2.0FSi quattro (225BHP) nice car and all that but the ride  bejesus it was so firm it was uncomfortable. Even on the motorway it managed to be 'bouncy' so I spent the whole journey with my vital organs being shaken and tossed around

It made me think how comfy (and cheap) the 406 is - maybe as you get older you crave an easy ride with no drama? well I'm happy to 'waft' along any day.

I had the misfortune of driving a new astra a couple of years ago. I actually loved the ride and thought it was great albeit a little uncomfortable. The steering was so responsive! Then after about 20 minutes my back decided it had something to say on the matter... Spent the rest of the drive home (Farnborough to Stoke  ) in excruciating agony  . I desperately wanted to stop at every services I could, but I knew if I got out of the car I'd end up completely stuck so I just had to try to get home as fast as possible. Couldn't walk for a few days after that

Now, if I'm having a bad back day I'll actually go and do a 50-100 mile motorway drive in my 406 and I'll be right as rain again! 8)

As a fellow bad backer (slipped disc 1998) I can honestly say the seats in the 406 are the best ones for backs even with the lack of lumbar adjustment (which in most cars just gets left on the lowest setting anyway).

This whole 'what to replace it with' thing is difficult as there isn't really anything similar. I guess we're all sold totally on the comfort thing?
