I`ve got a Y reg 406 HDI 110 and for the last two days when i unlock the car i can hear a beeping sound and can see the STOP light has come on before i even open the door, the engine management light, ABS light (i think) also are showing, and the milometer shows the service spanner and two rows of 000000. Car still starts and runs fine but twice today when i have started the car i have had faults come up on the display, first time said 'BRAKING FAULT' (i think,i nearly missed it) and then next time i started it came up 'ABS FAULT', every other time i started no fault messages but sometimes the mileage display shows '912700' when the STOP light, engine light and ABS light comes on.
I`m confused, any ideas?

Cruise control also not working neither is cd changer, seems to be no power going to it as it wont eject the cartridge, went to start car after work last night and all the culprit lights came on, but would not go off when i started the car, car started fine but lights still on and speedo and rev counter were unresponsive, stopped the car and waited a few mins and the lights went out, started car and all seemed fine again.
Going to try and get car diagnosed this week if i can get some time out of work.

Before sending the unit try the BSI Reset procedure as this may cure your faults:
Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off.
Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.
Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.
Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.).
Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.
Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.
Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.
Remove key open & close door test central locking system.
Start the engine and complete the system's check.
Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items.

I think i`ll go with someone that knows what they are doing! I know of a couple of places that do diagnostics, i`ll ring around and try to get booked in.

I reckon you'll find a/some corroded wire connector(s) somewhere - I would start under the carpets/boot/etc- I even read on a diagnostics forum that the cd changer itself can create 'issues' on the 406
Cars in my care:
2021 Kia Spottage 1.6 Pez Turbo Dual Clutch Gearbox Trickery
2013 Renner Twingo - donkey work
Most D9's are Multiplexed ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiplexing ) arn't they? meaning: I think anything can cause it as it seems to be a wide range of happenings, try the ECU connector, BSI Connector, unplug the CD changer.
I have never had this type of trouble on a peugeot but on a vectra i owned in the past i had all sorts of weird things happening and it turned out to be a bad earth. I have no idea where they are on a 406 but it may be worth checking all that you can find.
Car was fine, Its stuck off the road, High pressure fuel pump.
Parked up. no faults, apart from fuel pressure low etc from the pump.
came up with economy mode on the dash eg battery low. so i connected the charger,
next day disconnected the charger, eco mode still comming up battery voltage fine.
disconnected the battery, and connected later, now always flashing STOP, beeps for or five times every time you open the car. a massive 800k number comes up and then it resets all the dash to zero. the engine starts, and runs as per with cutouts when the high pressure pump clunks, but the speedo and the rev counter as well as the radio and other electrics are off, fans only work when the engines running. the lights stay on even when the cars locked.
Help. Please. I have all the diagnostics to hand and theres nothing coming up apart from the fuel presure warning, also the time and date seem to keep reseting
its a 1999 T 2.0 HDI 110Bhp. have i fried the ECU, if so is it worth reparing or is it time to strip.its had loads spent already.
