brake judder
i have put 2 sets of front disks on my car since i have owned it (40K miles) and both sets have been fine for a few thousand then juddered like hell again when braking for 60mph or above. (it was juddering when i bought it too)
I make sure they are seated propperly on the hub when fitting etc etc and i dont have a niticibly siezed calliper either.
Are 406 diesels renowned for bending disks?
Would OE ones fair better or is it just somehting they 'do'?

Re: brake judder
I had brake judder on my '97 406 2.1 td estate. I replaced them with halfrauds replacement discs and they've been fine since ~ approx 5yrs now. I have always used OEM pads, although any good make like mintex would be just as good.

Re: brake judder
They're famous for banana-shaped disks, I think Legoless's right and don't stick Pug ones on it. Wish I had that option...

Re: brake judder
I got a mintex set, front discs and pads for £60 odd. They're excellent quality. The previous set of pug OEM pads I bought were £49, waaaay overpriced IMO.
Re: brake judder
When coming to a stop do you hold the car on the footbrake or the handbrake?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
Re: brake judder
I wondered how long it would be before i got asked that question lol
Im pretty concious of its effect so tend to use the hand brake.

Re: brake judder
Rear ones only use disk on the handbrake not the foot brake so i doubt they would be warped.
Re: brake judder
think you will find rear discs have shoes inside them for the handbrake

.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron
Re: brake judder
just remembered what i wrote so have come on in hope that no one spotted my schoolboy error - no such luck!puggy wrote:think you will find rear discs have shoes inside them for the handbrake
Anyhow if the rears were warped i very much doubt it would make the steering wheel vibrake like a goodun!
Re: brake judder
ah caught you Loco
think i would be tempted to go for a more expensive
or better make of disc, like Dai says mintex are good quality i have them fitted
and not over the top on price

Yep, as Puggy says the mintex gear is very good. I've got them on the rear, got to do the fronts soon as the discs are quite lipped.
