Hay,
Ever since i started driving my pug (ehhh.... yesterday!) is have noticed a rattle coming from the engine in a certain band of revs quite low down. I don't think the prob is pinking (could be though) and my dad seems to think its a loose cover or something under the bonnet.
I have a recording taken from under the bonnet while the car is accelerating quickly up to 60 (it dose no happen if you just rev while stopped): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5_V_8r62XY
Any advice or idea what the prob is?
P.S. i have a 1.8 petrol, i remember hearing it was a 16v, but i'm not sure.

If it is that, how would i go about checking/fixing it? Chiefly where is the shield likely to be loose and where dose it run from and to?darrenwall wrote:sounds to me like an exhaust heat shield loose
I've no experience of heat shields under the bonnet if that's where its loose, i have had some experience with then underneath and in the middle though.

The rattle seemed to be bonnet-based but that was just a whim, so it may well be coming from underneath. I will check tomorrow.darrenwall wrote:i think they are the only ones on there , there shouldnt be any under the bonnetZippokovich wrote: i have had some experience with then underneath and in the middle though.
If anyone else has any ideas i will check them too.

lol must be a common problem i have the same problem albeit i have a d8 1.8 16v 406 however i have been under mine and checked the heat shield which i cannot find any fault with and on closer inspection it sounds more like theres a rattle in the cat -- doesn`t the cat eventually start breaking up when its dead or dying??
also i saw another post on here suggesting that it may be the crank pulley.....
