I hope you get it fixed alright. What mileage have you covered? I would doubt if there were anything wrong with the engine itself.
I have a problem with a similar - also V6 automatic and probably one of the last 406's built, as was first registered (in South Africa) in early 2004. The last month, having the odometer just past 100 000 km, I have found that the auto gearbox "hangs" in third gear and won't shift up to 4th. This is after a long uphill at 100-110 km/hr, with the V6 at about 3500 RPM, and it doesn't shift on the level road. Switching on "cruise control" seems to force it to up-shift.
I called in at the agents while heading back into my city. They put their computer on it and found nothing wrong (as I expected as it only seems to occur at speed).
Any ideas from you guys out there?
Regards.
John
