Hi all,

Had a search but not found an answer.....

Ive got a 2.0 petrol exec and had a new clutch about a year ago (approx 10,000 miles)

For some time now the clutch pedal is really juddery.... cant bring it up smoothly....

Gears seem fine... no slipping... just cant get control of it ...especially in traffic....

ill get the bite and when the car infront moves i bring the clutch pedal up but the pedal jolts up.... If you can imagine the pedal being on a ratchet...well thats what its like...

Any ideas how to fix this as im hitting Birmingham traffic most nights and its a nightmare...

Thx in advance

If it's not hydraulic, the clutch cable's rusted - you might be able to ease the situation by unclipping it and working some oil down the sheath, but that didn't last long the last time i did it (on a Laguna) so I'd get a new one

The cable is probably starting to fray and thats why it is getting caught on the return...I wouldn't even bother greasing it - it will just end up snapping anyways!

Replace it ASAP - there is nothing more inconvienient that a snapped clutch pedal. It's a cheap part!

ok...i took the cable off on friday but left it fed thru the bulkhead... theres not much to grease anyhow but when i pulled at the gearbox end it did feel like its on a ratchet so unless this is normal (which i presume it isnt) It must be frayed somewhere along it. As it happened when i refitted it (without greasing) it worked a treat, dont know why, but it did... its going back to old ways now tho....

I priced one up at £20 +vat (is this the going price)

Like u mentioned STALLED not worth the agro of being stranded somewhere...

Thx again for advice

Yeah the cable clutches never stayed smooth for very long. Bear in mind that pugs are designed to be LHD cars, with a nice short, straight clutch cables. On the RHD version the cable is about twice the length, features two right angle bends and passes very close to a hot engine which melts any lubricant that may be in there.

You know, that's a bloody good point! I never considered that before now!

New cable fitted and everything seems fine.... pedal seems a little harder than before but smooth action...

FYI the cable i took off was auto adjust and the one fitted was manual adjust.

Thx for the help
