hi guys - new to this site so please bear with me..its seems that i can hear a lot of rattling, chirping noises come from the engine bay when im moving off...it seems to get more worse when im turning the steering....when the car is parked up and engine is running, if i locke the steering to the left and the right...this rattling chirping noises increases...im assuming its something to do with the PAS, belt, pulleys.....?, oh its a high mileage 1999 peugeot 406 90bhp hdi..cheers

I would have a look at the long drive belt on the left. The floaty/bouncy tensioner at the top is expensive but mostly the whole lot goes quiet when you just fit a new belt 8)

Also check the level in the PAS bottle (might be running low).

Not sure if the 90bhp model has a dampened botom pulley? but this is well loud when this gets going

It could be the power steering pump bearings on the way out; mine is making similar noises.
Get a long screwdriver and put the tip on the pump and your ear to the end of the handle; you'll know for sure where the noise is coming from then! Get someone to turn the steering wheel lock to lock while your listening.
