406 2.0T Petrol FLAT as a Pancake

Hi,
I have a 2.0T Petrol 406, Which doesnt seem to pull at all and is difficult to get into the high revs. I have done what i can to test the turbo and beleive its working okay but doesnt seem like the ingine wants to rev properly under load. Revs okay at idle? Could this be an issue with the spark plugs or maybe fuel filter?

Could it be blocked exhaust system? possibly knackered cat?

Its strange as i can rev the car at standstill from the engine bay and its fine, high revs quite fast, turbo boosting as it should although im not sure what pressure as i dont have a boost gauge. Then take the car for a spin and put it under load and it struggles to get to full revs? Ive changed plugs, clutch is okay, nothing mechanically holding the car back just the engine not reving. Could it be a blocked fuel filter maybe or one of the engine senders failing?

Probably worth changing the fuel filter to fuel it out.

I am having similar probs with my prelude. basically running fine and drives ok, but after its been running a while (15mins+) it starts to struggle to rev and loses a lot of power. Also got a rattle that appears once been running while. I am putting my probs down to a failing cat that it partially blocking the exhaust once it gets warm.

What kind of condition is your exhaust? New? old and bit rusty?

Yea never thought about that really, exhaust not in the best of shapes but had the car at idle for a long time and hot and still revs are fine at standstill but not under load. Im thinking Lambda sensor, map sensor maybe ecu? I know my wastegate isnt working so not sure if the car is overboosting and causing problems at higher revs?

If it is over-boosting then the fuel cut sensor will be cutting the fuel injection to save the engine from overheating. Not the sensors fault but you need to sort the over boosting. Sounds to me like your turbo could do with a refurb (very common on the 2.0T) why not ask Niz on here? - he's had this loads of times!

mbell666 - on your Honda check the distributor! they have a habit of failing at 10 years old (my Integra's did) but they usually start to squeel/grumble a bit first. Take the dizzy cap off and I think there's a kind off dust guard/plate too behind the rotor arm. You need to look for signs of a brown dust where the dizzy bearings/shaft have been getting hot - and also check for play in the shaft. When mine went it melted the rotor arm, sent the timing way off, dumped fuel into the zorst and melted the CAT big style!

Dizzy's are circa £300.00 and we won't even talk about the eggsauce system, not today anyway :|

Not trying to scare you but it would be worth inspecting the dizzy cap insides for anything odd.
