Engines rough after aux belt change?

Hello! as usual I tried to save a bit of cash and decided to do a DIY job on changing the aux belt on my D8. The belt gave way about 4 days ago. I moved the ECU box holder out the way and re-seated the new belt which went on without problems. Now when starting her up, the Engine light comes on

and she's running rough? As far as I can see the aux belt is on correctly, I don't know whats happened?
Any Idea's anyone?

That, probably or you've caught the crank angle sensor wire or cam sensor (if it has one?) not that well upon the XUD's but I know the ECU multiplug can get a bit manky.

My first thought was aux belt shredded and made the timing belt jump but I'm hoping this is HDi specific. Another daddage: "work from the known to the unknown" - i.e. it's more likely to be something you touched, rather than a coincidence - have a look at the ecu connector plug, maybe there's some corrosion..? Have a look along the connectors and make sure none have been pushed up a la cheap scart plug. Re-seating it's a good idea anyway[/ex-BT engineer].

just a thought would the wrong size belt cause this
i know that there are 2 diff belt sizes for the 1.9td xudishthingie dependant on a/c compressor and 1 is just a little smaller than the other
i might be completley wrong and if so i apologise for the wasted effort you've had in reading this lol

hmm.. I took the old one to match it up against the correct sized one at GSF.. I did an aux belt change a couple of years back in exactly the same way following the instructions in the Red Haynes manual. The tensioner just needs to be pulled back and then the belt just fits onto the cogs. I had a quick look at the ECU wires and even unpluged it to check the contacts. They seem all ok, so now I'm just really puzzled.

I will have to do some further investigation tomorrow.
Welly, Is the doctor, James around these days? or has he ran off to the VW garage

He pops in sometimes but not as much recently
We miss him so.

OMG - This is really strange. I thought I would drive up to the stealers and catch one of their techies on a lunch break to see if I could bribe one of them

When suddenly the Engine light went off and my D8 sounded normal!

I pulled up and had a look under the bonnet, and everything seemed fine. I started her up again and drove home with her running as she always has. hmm.. I think it must be the positive karma coming back to me
