ok it's been happening ever since i got the car but it's driving me mad and i need to sort it i almost had that john cleese car beating episode that steve had in his avitar a while back
the bloody stop light on the dash keeps flicking on there doesn't seem to be any reason for it everything is ok with the car all the fluids are at the acceptable levels the only problem is the rad fan doesn't seem to work but i havent had a chance to get round to that however the temp stays level except when stuck in traffic and then i always turn the heater on full blast to keep it from boiling
anyways has anyone got any ideas what could be causing it there doesn't seem to be any specific time for it to kick off
thanks in advance

i had the same problem with the stop light but it olny happend when i was using the climate control or stuck in trafficit turned out that a wire had broken in the engine bay next to the battery(part of the loom).
if you have air con turn it on and see if your fans spin at low speed..
if not remove the grill and there should be a box in the fan assembly with relay's in see if they click.
hope that helps.

I reckon you should fix the fan 'cos your air con's overheating.

well it was quiet at work today so i took the grill off and found 3 green relays tested them and they all seem to work the fans rotate when pushed by hand but turn the air-con on and nothing happens i might be stupid but i couldn't see the resistors that are mentioned in the thread welly found so i'm all confused

*Penny drops*There are no resistors, the fans run low speed by running in series (so each gets 6 volts) (I'd better make that 6.75 volts before mjb notices

) and high speed by running in parrallel, this is all controlled by those 3 relays, the terminals of which have a knack of corroding to sh*t....

Coolant/temp sensing circuit.... either control box under passenger wing, fan relays, fans or just some dodgy looking electrical gremlin....

ahhhh haaaaaa ahhhhaaaaaaa (we really need an alan partridge emotoconthingy) electrical gremlins i wonder if it has anything to do with the dodgy connector to the heater blower thingy (technical term) that keeps playing up
looks like a fun day off with the electrical probe (and after that i may try to fix the rad fans on the car

)

MJB's Top Tip: Yank the ECU coolant temperature sensor plug, and both fans should fire up at full speed.
Do this and with the aid of a multimeter you should be able to track the problem down
