Hi there people,
I have a problem in that my cooling fan is not working-at all. I know the fan does work as i wired it directly to the battery and its fine, i have tried changing the resistor switches for the temp and also the relay. also tried the thermo switch thingy all of which failed.
Also the engine fault light is on permanatly i don't know if this is because it knows the fan is not working.
Please help.

Did you test it all with a meter? On the wiring diagram in HBoL the fans seem to be fired by the ECU, there's also a temperature sensor (looks like a thermistor) on the same diagram so I presume it's also something to do with running the fan (as well as the "pressostat"), maybe this would bring a fault light up. You could also have a squint at the connector to the ECU. Other than that, I think you're going to have to find someone with a code reader.

My engine light came on once and it was attributed to the fuse on the circuit shown below (the 40amp fuse with the white paint spots on it) this pic was taken by standing at the near side wing and looking directly down (battery to my left).
Basically the fan was worn and drawing a high current and flagging the fault light. It shares the same circuit as some other stuff that the ECU looks after. Have a look at the spades of the fuse for signs of overheating - this will indicate the cooling fan is worn also the fan will sound a bit rough (dry bearing sound).
I had to replace my fan on my HDi 110 1999 (T) it was £120.00 from gsf. Been fine ever since
