Hi guys,my first post on here. I ve got myself a 2.1 td '97 and wondered if I put a high flow air filter in it , would it make any difference to performance and mpg ?

I 'm new to the diesel scene , so I ll be nipping on asking what might seem stupid questions, from time to time...

I wouldn't bother TBH, you can remap the ECU with huge gains on this engine :cheesy:

How much are we talking for a remap ? Bearing in mind the car only cost £500... and what sort of gains are you talking about bhp wise.

I have just "chipped my hdi with about 20% increase across the board. I also ran a K&N filter. The filter lets the engine breathe a bit better but has little effect on the performance. I paid just over £100 on flea bay for mine. the diffrence is phenominal.

The 2.1 can be chipped to 140 BHP with ease. Captain Jack on here had his done and ran it for 3 years I think with no problems.

Welly is right, and you also benefit with better fuel consumption. Cost, about £200. Don't get a add on box tho, ECU is the only way to go.

Excuse my Ignorance, but isn't the 2.1td cylinder injection? :? Would this not mean that it has mechanically controlled injection from the timed injector pump and cannot therfore be chipped?

For all the use a chip would do, you may as well save the money and buy a bag of frozen McCain oven ones and keep them in the boot :cheesy:

No, the 2.1Td is fully electronic can have full ECU reprogram, late 1.9Td semi-electronic and can't be mapped or adjusted manaully, early 1.9Td fully mechanical and can be adjusted manually, !.8Td fully mechanical and can be adjusted manually, all HDi's fully electronic can have full ECU reprogram :cheesy:

The petrol engines can also be remapped, but they don't give as much a gain. Best contact a local tuning specialist in your area before you commit to the car.

Hello,

O i want the car, its still the best option available. Is it expensive to tune it? i also noticed how the air filter on it looks like. will i see much improvement with a pod? and how do they sound?

Cheers,
Aaron

An air filter may give you an extra 1.5-2bhp, they mainly come into play when you have a free flow sports exhaust system fitted along with a remap (remaps cost about £200-250), the remap may give and extra 20bhp.
