Hi All,
Found a nice looking 406 2.2SRI estate car, but unable to find out if it is a turbo or not.
The same car is advertised on two websites, one says its turbo, other says not, the trader selling the car says he thinks it is because it goes like a rocket.
I think there is a 2.0 SRI turbo but not shure on the 2.2
Can any of you keen pug fans answer this for me.
Charlie

Hi. No turbo i'm afraid on the 2.2. Shes just a 16v with 160bhp on tap 8)

Actually you're better off NOT having a turbo here.

The 2.2 will have loads of torque and be very flexible, and with 160BHP it won't hang around! it should make for simple and reliable ownership actually - in fact we very very rarely see any problems with the 406 petrol's (contrary to what some would have you believe i.e. Diesel is best etc.).

One thing to note is that the cambelt takes a bit extra load on these so make sure it's been changed or at least factor the cost into the deal. If my memory serves then the second camshaft is driven by chain within the head via the primary cambelt. Would be well worth listening for any unusual valve train noise in the head at different revs etc. which would indicate wear in the chain and tensioning mechanism although this is not popular as a problem it could indicate if the cars been serviced regular and driven nicely from cold etc.

There's 2 versions of the SRI - one with the 2.0 turbo and one with the 2.2 normally aspirated which is rare as rocking horse sh*t

I dunno which one's more reliable. The 2.0 turbo left stock is utterly bulletproof, but we've not really heard from anyone with a 2.2

Mmm, just realised my little review there was written in the abscense of any real evidence

I was just thinking along the lines of "406 petrols are pretty damn reliable" and then just filled in some gaps :cheesy:

/=_Psycho=Poet_-=/ has one and if he can't break it then I would buy one for sure
