2.1 TD

I have just gone back through 21 pages to learn about this DOG that i own (2.1 TD)and am amazed how much that people on hear rate them,yet i have not seen 1 query of which is similar to the problems that i am affected by,so,am i given to believe that my problem is a very rare 1 ?.and should "do you think" that i should be looking elsewhere,"ie" sensors and the like.Now the only problem i have with this particular model is the fact that everytime you want to do something to it seems to be "you have to remove the flamin engine"I have not heard of anybody elses engine eating it's own oil either ???.love this old banger but i am very fast going off of it,Anyone got a 2.1 TD engine that can be heard running and for sale please ?Would buy whole car if cheap enough."well engine's got to come out anyway" just seems to be the logical answer to my problem. what do you old boys out there think ?I am so confused because i have never had this problem with any Pug that i have owned before,106's,306's my best friend a brilliant 405 non turbo which was the best Pug i ever owned,192.000 miles thrashed to the gunnels and came back for more,what a car.

Nope, it's a first for us. I try to read as much about these cars as I can find but I've never heard of one doing that before, Xantia's aren't known for it either.
The 2.1 does seem to be a very good lump and, with regular servicing, cam belts etc. can go on to do rediculous mileages, its fuel consumption is still good for old technology but it's not covered in masses of emission control stuff all eager to go wrong and cost a fortune. Plus the car's a D8, which means you've got a hell of a lot less all over to go wrong. If I could find a decent, low mileage 2.1 estate, I'd willingly swap my HDi for it.
As you've spotted the only drawback is it's a big lump shoe-horned into a small car so it's a bastard to work on.
So, what's your oil level like?

I can certainly partly agree with you, when I first bought this lump I had to remove the engine to examine it. It is a complete arse to remove and two arses to re-fit. But after the sweat and tears this car is growing on me, it is smooth, fast, very comfortable and has all the whistles and bells.

i used to own a 2.1 td and it was the most relaible car i ever owned ( it was in my family for 7 years and covered well over 120000 miles without anything major go wrong ) . mine had an odd fault which was that it just wouldnt rev occasionly , you could be driving along and the engine would just drop to tick over for a few seconds ( that made for scary overtaking

) . i was told that because the 2.1 is a " drive-by-wire " throttle system ( the accelerator cable goes to a sensor which in turn opens the diesel pump according to throttle position instead of mechanically crontrolling the pump like most other diesels ) it is usually this . it could be worth trying that first before you go taking your engine .
