Peugeot 406 1.9td ( T Reg) estate help needed

Post by balchder »

Hi,

The ignition barrel on my car broke the other week and I couldn't get the key out or stop the engine without stalling it. We removed the ignition and managed to get the car started by touching the wires together at the back so that I could use it the next day. After this however the car wouldn't start again. I have now replaced the barrel but it still wont start. Is this the immobiliser kicking in or a fuel switch somewhere as no fuel is flowing from the pump. Wife had a baby this week so had to hire a car in the meantime but have to have it sorted by Monday, so any help apreciated.

Dragging you out of the sea of spam...

What did you do about the immobilizer coil arround the ignition key? It might be as simple as having your key right near it while you, umm, hotwire it...

I just left the coil hanging there and it started ok that day. The next day nothing. Since then I have changed the barell, which needs a different key but i keep the old key taped to it. My father in law has checked the fuel pump but nothing is coming through it. Thanks.

If you've a new key you should be able to take the transponder (tiny black chip) out of the old one and put it in it. I must admit to not being too hot on immobilzer issues, there's a load of posts about it on here (including how to get rid of it) so have a search. Does it have a key pad?

Hi,

There is no keypad. The new key I have is just the metal part without any of the "plastic housing". I have been trying to use this with the old key tied to the ignition, so as to pick up the transponder.
